Door Not Closing Properly?
Quick hinge adjustment guide. Most issues can be resolved in 2 to 5 minutes with the Allen key supplied on your Titan keyring.
What You Will Need
Quick Check 30 seconds
- Check nothing is trapped in the frame, such as packaging, grit or small offcuts.
- Open and close the door slowly and note where it catches.
- If it is very wet weather, the door can swell slightly. If it is only a tiny rub, it may ease once it dries.
What Are You Seeing?
Often a side-to-side adjustment is enough.
Could be side-to-side, or a small height tweak if the door has dropped.
The keep, or strike plate, may need a tiny move.
Stop and contact Titan before anything is strained.
Most Common Fix: Move The Door Left Or Right
Many Lugarde style hinges allow a small side-to-side adjustment using an Allen key. Tiny changes make a big difference.
Step By Step
- Open the door.
- Find the Allen key adjustment point on each hinge, sometimes behind a small cap.
- Turn in small increments, about a quarter turn at a time.
- Adjust both hinges evenly, then close the door and test.
- Repeat as needed until the gap looks even and the door closes smoothly.
Simple Symptom Guide
- Tight on the lock side: you usually need to move the door slightly towards the hinges.
- Tight on the hinge side: you usually need to move the door slightly towards the lock side.
- Aim for an even gap down the side of the door.
Tip: If you overshoot, just reverse the adjustment slightly. Keep it small and steady.
If The Door Has Dropped: Height Adjustment
If the door is catching low down, it may need a small height tweak. Supporting the door first makes this safer.
- Open the door.
- Support the door with a wedge near the bottom so the weight is not hanging on the hinges.
- Make a very small adjustment. A couple of millimetres is often enough.
- Tighten everything back up, remove the wedge, and test the door.
If The Door Closes, But The Lock Will Not Latch
Sometimes the door is fine, but the latch no longer lines up with the keep after the building settles. A tiny reposition usually solves it.
- Check where the latch hits the keep.
- The keep can often be nudged slightly to re-align.
- Once aligned, the latch should click in smoothly.
- If the latch hits the keep above or below, the keep may need to move slightly up or down.
- If the latch hits left or right, the keep may need a tiny sideways move.
- Loosen screws slightly, adjust a tiny amount, re-tighten, then test.
If the door still will not close smoothly after a few small adjustments, or it feels like it is under pressure, stop and contact us.
